The Journey...

"When you're working on your film, you never come home alone."
Michael Belmont, aka Mdotstrange.

I've been working on Chainsaw Diaries since august and the hope is to have it done by this coming August. I've been trying to make a feature film since before I could really percieve what that meant. When I was sixteen I saw Mdotstrange's WE ARE THE STRANGE, a bizzare patchwork quilt of a movie. It mad me realize, not only could I make a movie, I would make a movie.
Check out his podcast, by the way.

Meanwhile, soon I will be releasing part 1 of The Chainsaw  Diaries, with the name MOSQUITO SEASON. While the feature film version will contain more scenes and better character development, Mosquito Season will work as a self contained story.

Chainsaw Diaries Update

In an effort to boost publicity for the film, we are submitting the first segment of THE CHAINSAW DIARIES, tentatively titled MOSQUITO SEASON to a number of festivals this May. Here's a few shots from the film.

A few scenes were also done using a camera I was able to borrow from my film school.

And while we're posting pictures, here's an old one of me and Nick on our first film together, Creeps, Critters and Croations. This picture makes me laugh. The corpse is Alex Marante, whom I can assure you is alive and well. Alive at least. Look at all that blood. And we didn't get a drop on the carpet.

The Go Green Jet Pack!!!

That's correct, you read it right: A jetpack. Here are a few simple rules to follow in creating a jet pack:

First, follow the first rules from my previous post, "Go Green with a Bang!!", and gather your supplies and clean them. Then Follow:
First, cut two plastic bottles in half.

Then, fit each bottle and their halves on two other plastic bottles to make them look long and tube like. Then duct tape em together and spray pain them how you wish.

Next: take an old back pack and with a card board box, I used a 24 pack beer box, wrap it around the back pack in a triangle shape with the flat par on the back end.

Duct tape the two bottles on.

You can then decorate the pack however you want. You could put fins on the sided like a Buck Rogers sort of thing.

You will see this back pack in our next short. Until then, keep watching.

GO GREEN WITH A BANG!!!

Hello, everyone. Things have been busy here at Team Insomniac Films. We've been working on "The Chainsaw Diaries" for the most part. We'll be showing you some new stuff soon, but for now I wanna share something cool that I've been doing for a College project.

You see, Earth Day is coming up and I was given the task to come up with a project to show how people can help make the world a better place. I thought this: "why not use recyclables and other sorts to make props for movies?" And so I went to work. I present to you: a tutorial in making new prop future guns!

First, gather all the recyclables you have: cardboard, plastic bottles, glass bottles, milk jugs, and all that and take em out back for cleaning.

When it comes to plastics, the best thing is to cut off the labels of them. Don't bother with glass bottles, unless you have the right tools.

Next, clean the insides of them out with the hose and swish the water around to get all of the sugar and liquid out. Do this with all types of bottles you will use.

For milk jugs, and other big thick plastic bottles, let the water sit and soak to be sure that everything is out.

Now that everything's clean, lets begin to build our new guns:

First, use any spray paint you want. I got aluminum for the glass bottles. They get a shiny look to em.

I sprayed the plastics with assortments of colors, mostly dull gun colors to keep a gun look. You can do what you want to make em your own.

Be sure to get everything with several coats of paint. The best thing, especially with plastics, is to use plastic primer so the paint doesn't peel off over time. I had paint with primer.

Now it's time to cut em up. The best tool for this is a sharp, reliable exacto razor blade with a good grip. Make sure it's sharp, it makes cutting easier risks the chance of hurting yourself.

For the milk jug, I cut a big enough hole to fit two soda bottles.

Then, cut one bottles side to fit another soda bottle into it.

Much like this.

Then put the two together. Looks like a smaller gun outta Superman, Spider-Man, or Men In Black, right?

Then it's time for duct tape. Lots and lots of duct tape.

Secure the plastic bottles together and pop them into the jug again.

This is a design that didn't go well, but I was able to fix it.

Take that hole fit for two glass bottles, take the plastic piece from one of the soda bottles you cut off, and then fit in enough for it to stay tight. Now, the glass bottle fell back in, but it can pop back out if you do it right and then you have a grenade launcher pop-out!

Here's a neat trick: spray paint a paper towel, enough top have it globing wet.

Then: you pat it on the gun, and WHALA! CAMO!! Course, you can also do the same to make the gun rusty, old, or anything with the right combination of paint.

And there you go! Your own basic futuristic gun. I'll be playing with these steps more to make even better combinations of recyclables to make bigger guns, but for now here's what I have. We'll be using these guns in a short that's an continuity movie with OUT OF TIME OUT OF MIND, where Doctor Rembrane teams up with a scientist from the future to save the world. Keep watching, we'll post it soon. Until then, keep watching and see you round.
